They say curiosity killed the cat (whoever "they" is). It can also distract from what is important.
I would love to know what Jesus wrote on the ground in John 8, verses 6 and 8. It must have been something important, for it was God in the flesh writing it. But, in reality, it's not important for me to know. I know it's not important for me to know, because if it were, God would have recorded it.
It's easy to become distracted by what's not in the Bible, to wish God had explained things just a little bit more, to long for the day when we get to heaven and we can have complete understanding.
It simply doesn't matter. God gave us a wealth of knowledge in the Bible, and it would take longer than we have in our earthly lives to perfectly understand all that God has to teach us in His Word. I need to be busy reading what's written ("what saith the scripture?"), and not wondering about what isn't.
